A lofty three-story building on a big curve in Myouban onsen.
Many people would see this as either a hotel or a Ryokan (a traditional Japanese inn), while going up the steep hairpin curve.
The cozy entrance is on the third floor, that is, the top floor, and customers are supposed to check in at the reception there and then take the elevator to go down to the first floor.
Opening the onsen entrance firing up with a shout of “Yeah!”, a wonderful panoramic view of a variety of open-air baths spread out.
Taking advantage of the difference of elevation, Yuya Ebisu is designed to offer onsen at every floor from the ground to the top.
Let’s enjoy “Kinou onsenyoku“, which means taking different types of onsen for better mutual effect.
For Beppu onsen is the number one Japanese onsen, there are a wide variety of hot springs and facilities in Beppu.
“Which onsen do you recommend if I should choose just one ?”
Many people might keep annoying an information staff with such inquiries, but the answer is simple; “Yuya Ebisu”
Does it make sense if I say, “You can complete Kinou onsenyoku with Yuya Ebisu only”? Yuya Ebisu has two different hot spring sources, so it can offer two different effects; one is skin cleansing effect by sulfur spring for removing keratin , and the other is moistening by simple spring. Even though Beppu spring is the well-known top onsen in Japan, it is very hard to find such a place which can offer two different types of hot springs in one place, except Yuya Ebisu.
Everything is perfect; high-quality hot spring sources, great atmosphere, wide variety and well-equipped facilities. Besides being beneficial high-quality springs, Yuya Ebisu treats you with wide-variety of unique onsen such as moody indoor onsen, refreshing open-air onsen, jacuzzi with full of bubbles in a fashionable octagonal ? or nonagonal ? glazed building, and Beppu speciality “Hakomushi”. Hakomushi is a kind of sauna where guests stay in a small room surrounded by wooden plates. Such onsen entertainments are so much fun and you could forget about the time. Actually, I didn’t realize one hour had already passed when I had great fun trying one onsen after another.
On the other hand, on the third floor, there are a lounge where you can relax enjoying the outside view and a glare-free resting room suitable for meditation. In this way, Yuya Ebisu is a wonderful onsen facility where guests can relax themselves even for a whole day, Moreover, guests can take bedrock spa at an additional charge. (Today, I’ve satisfied enough with the variety of large public baths, so I didn’t try the bedrock spa.)
In sulfur onsen, you can’t see your feet at all due to the cloudy water, so be careful when you enter the bath. Some parts are easy to access with stone steps, while others are hard because the depth of the water changes suddenly. I recommend you to enter the water little by little for you can’t see how deep it is. Be careful not to lose balance avoiding exposing your ungainly appearance with no clothes accidently.
Onsen choices you can enjoy daily. The first floor is mainly for outdoor onsen, while the second is for indoor. On both floors, bathtubs for men and for women change daily alternately, so all the guests can enjoy both types to their hearts’ content. For example, for the outdoor focused onsen on the first floor, women can use on odd days, while men on even days. They say the large open-air hot springs on the first floor are popular among men. A lot of men are witnessed having fun in outdoor onsen even struggling against the severe coldness with the snow piled up.
Imaging the picture, I recalled the song, “On a snowy day, a dog is running around the garden with joy …”.
On the other hand, onsen on the second floor is popular among women. The water is cloudy and guests can enjoy the calm and spacious atmosphere over the water.
Furthermore, there is a special bathtub beside the window, where people can enjoy overviewing the beautiful arch of the Myouban Bridge practicing “Hanshinyoku”. “Hanshinyoku” is a description for taking s bath with upper body above the water. The bathtub was originally designed to enable the guests to enjoy the beautiful view with “Hanshinyoku”.
The cost performance is excellent. If you return from Myouban hot spring to the Beppu station, I’m sure you won’t fail to be asked, “Have you been to Myoban onsen just now?” because of your smell of sulfur. You will be able to keep sensing the odor of sulfur, on the following day, or possibly the day after the next. Its cost performance is beyond expectation.
Yuya Ebisu has an adjoining accommodation, “Onyado Ebisu.
Only its customers can enjoy the mysterious charms of the blue water with the exclusive outdoor family bath for 24 hours. Moreover, as the ultimate luxury, those customers can take both public baths which are offered for men and women daily alternately. Moreover, they can taste the “Jigokumushi dishes” in its stylish garden for the accommodation guests only. “Jigokumushi dishes” mean dishes cooked with the heat of onsen springs. The odor of onsen can add special flavor to the dishes. In this way, the guests for the “Onyado Ebisu” can experience all the best of onsen inn, “ one after another!
※1 Yuya means “Public bathhouse” and “Ebisu” is a pronoun originally for a famous Japanese god for business prosperity
